Richard Moulds, VP Strategy, Whitewood Encryption Entropy is what brings crypto to life. Without it we have predictability and risk. True randomness is hard to generate and even harder to test but few security professionals give it a second thought. Our challenge is that more and more applications rely on crypto for their security but increasingly they run in virtualized environments or on IoT devices where there may be little or no entropy. In this session we explain the role of entropy in generating random numbers, compare the various methods for creating or capturing it and review what steps users can take to mitigate the risks of entropy starvation.
