Simon Rix

Simon Rix is a Senior Manager at EWA-Canada, part of Intertek’s Connected World group, located in our Ottawa, Canada.

Simon is the CST Lab Manager and oversee a team that performs FIPS 140-2 and FIPS 140-3 evaluations for submission to the (CMVP). In his short time at EWA-Canada Simon has achieved several NVLAP and CMVP accreditation which includes FIPS Cryptographic Validation Program (CVP) Certification (CVP-3-00105) as well as NAVLAP NIST 150-17 accreditation (SME) for 17ESV (Entropy Source Validation for SP 800-90B Entropy) and 17ACVT (Automated Cryptographic Validation Testing)”

Simon joined Intertek in 2021, after more than 30 years as a developer, technical manager and director of cryptographic orientated products and solutions.

Simon has led several complex multi-million-dollar security and applied cryptography projects that involves ASICs, FGPAs, Smart Cards SOCs as well as cryptographic protocol design in the Conditional Access domain. He has 8 worldwide patents in the applied cryptography and was one of the inventors of the DVB Block Cipher where he defines a novel mode of operation that was complimented by Adi Shamir.

His background in applying cryptography in both the hardware and software domains enables a deep understanding of the intricate security technology that goes into designing Cryptographic Modules and how to evaluate the security of existing cryptographic modules as they are re-designed.
