Multi-Party Threshold Schemes with Cryptographic Modules (C23b)

The multi-party track of the threshold cryptography project at NIST is developing criteria for future proposals of threshold schemes. These schemes will specify distributed operations for generating cryptographic keys and for performing subsequent operations, such as signing, encryption, decryption and key exchange. In particular, the sought threshold schemes need to ensure security even when up to a threshold number f of parties leaks private information or maliciously deviate from the protocol specification. This talk will give an update about the project state and envisioned next steps. The talk is intended to promote reflection on the extent to which typical cryptographic modules may be ready or not to play as “parties” in these multi-party interactions.
