Educating the Next Generation of FIPS 140 Certification Specialists (C43b)
If you read the news these days relating to cyber security, it is virtually impossible to miss the large number of articles which focus on the ever-increasing labor shortage in this market sector. The information security certification segment of this market has not been immune to this problem either. Since it has become increasingly difficult to both find and retain already capable talent, it is becoming imperative for those involved with InfoSec certifications, and specifically cryptographic certifications, to go above and beyond the traditional approaches to acquiring, training, and retaining those employees with the requisite skill sets. In this presentation, we will look at this problem from the perspective of both a product vendor and a certification lab and see what measures are currently in place to address the problem. We shall look at various training and mentoring methodologies which can be employed to bolster an employee’s certification skills repertoire. We will also take some time toward the end of the presentation to investigate some new and novel approaches which might help to alleviate the cybersecurity skills gap.
